Outdoor Concerts in the Woodlands

Who doesn’t love an outdoor concert?

You can bring lawn chairs or lay some blankets on the grass to enjoy the sweet melodies of your favorite musician with family and friends. The warm Texas wind sends a cool breeze your way while the sonorous tunes echo through the audience.

The Woodlands provides Greater Houston with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, known by the locals as “The Pavilion.” George and Cynthia Mitchell, the founders of the Woodlands, sought to give this area a venue for all types of music. Each year, the Pavilion hosts 65 performances March through December. Aside from concerts, it boasts “Numerous educational outreach programs including Musical Scores, Fine Arts Education Day, Music in Motion and Children’s Festival reach approximately 40,000 students and their families.” This grants the Greater Houston community access to various styles of music and entertainment, a perfect way to spend the last days of summer. Occasionally, the Houston Symphony, Ballet, and Houston Grand Opera also inhabit the Pavilion. This venue truly has something for everyone!

When building the Pavilion, George and Cynthia Mitchell emphasized the importance of an educational initiative available; it offers several programs that support fine arts students and allow them to perform, including Texas Music Festival Orchestra and Music in Motion. Occasionally, there are free activities before these events in order to bring in new audience members. The goal of this venue is to make music and performing arts accessible to the public, and they have certainly succeeded.

The Houston Symphony has also made the Pavilion its summer home, and several big name musicians are coming soon! Previously, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Tim McGraw, and John Mayer have performed for thousands of Woodlands and Houston citizens sitting on the green.

In August and September, performances include: J. Cole, Def Leppard with Styx, Kelly Clarkson, and Lenny Kravitz.

Join your fellow Woodlands and Houston neighbors for some great company and phenomenal music!
