ANDREW WILLIAMS

at Magnolia Art Gallery thru August 1

New York based photographer, Andrew Williams’ emphasizes the drama of architecture in his show titled “Archetypes,” now on display at the Magnolia Art Gallery.

“The Archetype series of photographs was inspired by a dream that I encountered.
It is based on geometry within architecture. The structures are multiplied and
juxtaposed onto themselves. The images have a formulaic feel and are
meant to portray the term “archetype”  as accurately and graphically as
possible,” Andrew Williams.

Magnolia Art Gallery is one of the unique alternative art spaces in Dallas, nestled
within the Magnolia Theater and a haven for up and coming artists. “Archetypes” will be on display through August 1st.

Sour Grapes : Rest in Power

Sunday, June 26

The Dallas Contemporary
161 Glass St.
Dallas, TX 75207
12pm -5 pm
FREE

It would seem a difficult task to make a name for yourself as an artist when your work would be lucky to survive more than a few weeks. But thus is the life of Sour Grapes, a collaborative group of more than a dozen graffiti artists from Oak Cliff. Many of the group’s most popular works exist only in photographs today (because, believe it or not, the city doesn’t love it when you paint on their stuff), and yet Sour Grapes has garnered enough attention and developed enough of a following to get its own exhibition at the Dallas Contemporary. As part of the show, the group will create two major wall paintings — an interior painting that pays homage to fallen heroes and fellow artists, and an exterior painting depicting four giant paletas in honor of a string of Dallas ice cream vendors that were the victims of violence several years ago.
